To be a good teacher, you need some of the gifts of a good actor: you must be able
to hold the attention and interest of your audience; you must be a clear speaker,
with a good, strong, pleasing voice which is fully under your control; and you
must be able to act what you are teaching, in order to make its meaning clear.
Watch a good teacher, and you will see that he does not sit motionless before his
class: he stands the whole time he is teaching; he walks about, using his arms,
hands and fingers to help him in his explanati*****, and his face to express feelings.
Listen to him, and you will hear the loudness, the quality and the musical note of his
voice always changing according to what he is talking about.
The fact that a good teacher has some of the gifts of a good actor doesn't mean
that he will indeed be able to act well on the stage, for there are very important
differences between the teacher's work and the actor's. The actor has to speak
words which he has learnt by heart; he has to repeat exactly the same words each
time he plays a certain part, even his movements and the ways in which he uses his
voice are usually fixed beforehand. What he has to do is to make all these carefully
learnt words and acti***** seem natural on the stage.
A good teacher works in quite a different way. His audience takes an active part
in his play: they ask and answer questi*****, they obey orders, and if they don't
understand something, they say so. The teacher therefore has to suit his act to
the needs of his audience, which is his class. He cannot learn his part by heart,
but must invent it as he goes along. I have known many teachers who were fine
actors in class but were unable to take part in a stage play because their brains
wouldn't keep discipline: they could not keep strictly to what another had written.

Dear Editor
Nowadays bilingual teaching has been carried out in several schools in some
parts of China. Some people think it a brand new thing. It is beneficial in
accelerating the accumulation of students' vocabulary, integrating English
with other courses and applying the language.Others c*****ider it only a format.
It might have a bad effect on teaching of other subjects and mastering mother
language.
學(xué)校將組織一場英語辯論會,辨題是:回家作業(yè)對小學(xué)生而言有必要嗎?

necessary / unnecessary
key knowledge in our text books / knowledge that one is interested in
lazy / self-c*****cious(自覺的)

waste / make use of
2. 你不必根據(jù)上面的提示逐條進(jìn)行寫作,應(yīng)有選擇地自己組織短文。
Possible versi*****:
A
In my opinion homework is quite necessary for the pupils. The homework given
by teachers often includes the key knowledge in our textbooks. They can go
over it and then grasp it by doing homework. Besides many of the pupils are
not self-c*****cious. Some of them are even lazy. You cannot expect them to
depend on themselves. They have to be forced to do some homework to help them
study well. Or they may waste their time. Doing homework can also help them to
find their problems. To listen to it is one thing; while to do it is quite
another.
B
In my opinion homework is unnecessary for the pupils. They can learn by
ourselves because they are self-c*****cious and they love learning new things.
If they have to do homework, they shall not have much time left to learn some
other knowledge that they are interested in. If they are forced to do something
that they don't like, they cannot do it well. If they are willing to do it,
they may find it easy and they'll try their best. Besides they don't always
want to depend on their teachers. They should learn to depend on themselves.
Let every one of them learn how to make good use of their time.
